The U-Can Handle and Receiver™ is a two-piece, adjustable apparatus that increases mechanical leverage as an individual pivots wheeled receptacles, such as trash/recycling bins and industrial barrels, back onto the container's wheels. The U-can handle adds stability to the receptacles while heavy bins are wheeled to different locations.
How it Works
The U-Can™ handle slides down through the receptacle’s existing horizontal handles and fits into the U-Can™ receiver and, locked in with pins.
The receiver sits below the receptacle’s existing handles and is secured to the receptacle by an adjustable nylon strap that wraps around the body of the receptacle. The receiver allows the U-Can Handle and Receiver™ to universally fit onto any wheeled receptacle.
When to use U-CAN
When a heavy trash can or bin needs to be rolled through uneven terrain, up & down hills, or any distance to the curb for pick up.
This design addresses the challenge that is often found with existing manufactured handles on wheeled receptacles, which have limited leverage and stability as receptacles are pivoted back onto their wheels and moved around.
The receiver stays on the can while the trash truck picks up.
The Handle should be removed after rolling the bin to the curb so the lid can dump freely in the truck
Benefits of the U-CAN
The increased mechanical leverage that the U-Can Handle and Receiver™ provides reduces the amount of physical force required to pivot heavy receptacles, which is advantageous to those who have limited physical mobility, reduced muscular strength, shoulder injuries, reduced shoulder range of motion, or who have a shorter physical stature. This design also provides increased left-right stability to the user to help prevent the receptacle from tipping over. Provides multiple grab points using different muscle groups than traditional bin handles. This assistive device promotes independence for the elderly and injured or any persons who could use help.
Basic setup of the U-CAN
- Wet the long strap, this allows the nylon to stretch.
- Take the long support strap and put it on top of the trash can
- Hold the receiver bar and wrap the height-adjusting strap (short strap) around the middle of the trash can handle. Note: Adjusting the height of the receiver allows the U-Can handle to have a clear pathway through the barrel handle. Tighten the lock height strap through the ladder lock.
- Wrap the large support strap around the can and then pull the loop handle on the strap to tighten the long strap around the bin. Pull the strap as tight as possible. Wrap any slack so it does not dangle. Once the receiver is secured and centered in place, it will stay with the can. No need to remove the receiver; it can stay on while the truck picks up the can/bin.
- Slide U-Can handle into the receiver
- Take the locking pins and slide them through the receiver and handle. This will keep the handle locked in place for pushing and pulling the bin.
